Overview

Hear your music the way it was recorded. This package swaps tired factory speakers for French-made Focal Flax Evo speakers front and rear, then gives them real power with a Pioneer GM-D8704 4-channel amplifier. Expect a natural, detailed sound with a rich midrange, clean bass and a clear, wide soundstage, with the headroom to turn it up without it falling apart.

Up front, the PS165FE component set has separate TAM inverted dome tweeters that can be mounted up high for a realistic stage, while the matching PC165FE coaxials in the rear fill the cabin with the same Flax character. Two InstalPro acoustic seal kits are included to seal all four speakers into the doors, and the Stinger STK4 kit provides the wiring to get the amplifier installed.

The heart of the front stage. Focal's French-made Flax sandwich cone (a flax fibre core between two thin sheets of glass fibre) is light, rigid and well damped, so it delivers dynamic, natural sound without colouration, with a rich midrange and clean, tight bass.

Focal PC165FE Flax Evo 6.5" 2-Way Coaxial Kit (rear)

The rear speakers share the same Flax cone and TMD surround as the front component set, so the sound stays consistent and natural right through the cabin.

Pioneer GM-D8704 Class D 4-Channel Bridgeable Amplifier

Big power, small size. Pioneer's compact, efficient Class D design gives each speaker the clean power a factory head unit simply cannot, and its speaker-level inputs mean you can keep your factory head unit if you want to.

• 100W RMS x 4 at 4 ohms, 150W RMS x 4 at 2 ohms, or 300W RMS x 2 bridged at 4 ohms (1,200W max)
• 1-ohm stable circuit with Pioneer's Protection Control System, which monitors internal temperature to help prevent shutdowns
• Variable high-pass and low-pass filters (40Hz - 500Hz)
• Bass boost (0 - 18dB at 50Hz) with a bass boost remote control

Stinger Australia STK4 4 Gauge Amplifier Wiring Kit

• 2 pairs of 5m (17ft) twisted-pair RCA interconnects

InstalPro SASK Speaker Acoustic Seal Kit (one kit per pair of speakers)

A small part that makes a big difference. The sound from the back of a speaker is the exact opposite of the sound from the front, and when the two meet inside the door they cancel out. The seal kit isolates the back wave so you hear more mid-bass, clarity and imaging.

• Egg-crate acoustic damping pads (200 x 200mm) that sit behind the speaker to absorb the back wave
• Sealing rings to seal the speaker to the metal door skin so air does not leak past
• Front foam rings (200mm, 165mm, 130mm, 100mm and 75mm sizes) that seal between the speaker and the door trim or grille, directing the sound into the cabin

Why They Work Together

The GM-D8704 has exactly the four channels this system needs: two for the PS165FE front component set and two for the PC165FE rear coaxials. At 100W RMS per channel into 4 ohms it has plenty of clean power for the 70W RMS Flax Evo speakers, with the gains set correctly for your head unit.

Because both speaker sets use the same Flax cone and TMD surround, the front and rear blend together naturally instead of sounding like two different systems. The amplifier's speaker-level inputs mean it can work with a factory head unit as well as an aftermarket one, and the two seal kits make sure every speaker gets the most out of its door.

Important Information

• Fitment and mounting depth vary between vehicles. The PS165FE and PC165FE need 72.7mm of mounting depth and a 165mm (6.5") cut-out; some vehicles need speaker adaptors, spacers or harnesses (not included).
