Overview

The JL Audio RD1500/1 is the most powerful amplifier in the RD monoblock series. It is built purely for subwoofers and uses JL Audio's NexD high-speed Class D switching to make serious power efficiently. That means less heat and less current draw than a conventional amplifier, so there is less strain on the vehicle's electrical system.

A low-impedance circuit lets the RD1500/1 deliver a rated 1500W RMS into either 2 ohms or 1 ohm at 14.4V, with 750W RMS available at 4 ohms. A "Low Z" switch selects 1 ohm or 2 ohm operation.

Set-up is easy. All the controls sit on top of the amp under a protective cover, and all the connections are along one side. A 12dB/octave low-pass filter is continuously variable from 50-500Hz, and a variable bass boost (0 to +12dB at 45Hz) lets you tailor the low end. The differential-balanced RCA inputs have switchable low and high ranges that accept most source signal levels, and an LED clipping indicator ring lets you set the input level accurately without test gear.

Turn-on is by +12V remote wire, signal sensing or DC offset sensing. A buffered pass-through preamp output feeds a second amplifier. The RD1500/1 has a black powder-coated finish and a top-mounted two-colour status LED strip. Add the optional JL Audio RBC-1 remote level control (sold separately) to adjust sub level from the driver's seat.
